In Guatemala, President Bernardo Arévalo took office on 15 January 2024, raising hopes of democratic reform. Still, an entrenched elite has continuously distorted the independence of the judiciary. Not only are elections highly contested; democracy itself is on the line. Can Guatemala turn the tide?

This text is a contextualization of the prisoners release in Nicaragua.

Pursuing a PhD is an exigent endeavor entailing various psychological and organizational challenges. This article proposes our adaptation of the agile method Scrum, which we call “ScrumAdemia,” as a solution.

Im Austausch mit der Länderanalystin reflektierten wir über die aktuelle Lage in Nicaragua. Anlass war die Ende 2024 durchgebrachte umfängliche Änderung der Verfassung, sowie damit im Zusammenhang stehende Reformpakete. Insbesondere die Sicherheit für Menschenrechtsaktivisten, Journalisten, Oppositionelle, Universität Mitarbeiter, sowie deren Angehörige standen im Fokus des Gesprächs. Auch die aktuellen Abschiebungen aus den USA und die möglichen Konsequenzen für die Betroffenen war Inhalt des Gesprächs.
