The “Crossing Borders – Foreign Correspondents Connecting with Scholars” series brings together researchers and journalists to discuss developments around the world impacting Germany and, specifically, Hamburg. The event series is a joint creation of the GIGA and Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR), meant to provide interested members of the public with important context on current events. The GIGA and its scholars contribute their expertise on the various world regions and on social, economic, and political upheavals; NDR brings its first-hand knowledge based on its foreign correspondents' decades of overseas experience. NDR is a public radio and television broadcaster based in Hamburg, and its programmes reach millions of people in Germany. As a member of the ARD consortium, it runs or contributes to Das Erste, Phoenix, Arte, 3Sat, and Tagesschau, among others.
In addition to the joint event series, the GIGA also cooperates with NDR on other media formats. For example, our researchers are frequently requested as discussion partners for NDR Info’s podcast Streitkräfte und Strategien, which covers current political and economic events from around the world.
