At “Book a Scientist,” interested parties have the opportunity to engage with GIGA experts for 25 minutes and learn more about their respective research topics. In this online format, they can ask questions about global political, economic, and social developments that have always been of fascination to them.
During the digital event on 15 October, four GIGA researchers will be available to take your questions. The talks will take place from 10:00–11:30 and from 16:00–17:30 respectively.
Syria was at the centre of the Arab Spring in 2011. What followed was a civil war that lasted for years and became increasingly complex due to the growing involvement of international actors. Today, Syria and the situation in the country are being overshadowed by the Gaza War, losing the attention of the global public. Dr. André Bank, who has been researching Syria for years, is an expert on the country's multi-layered conflicts. “Book a Scientist” offers the opportunity to learn more about the current situation, the players involved, and the course of the war.
What is the state of the energy transition in Indonesia? The JETP (Just Energy Transition Partnership) plan has its weaknesses: It relies on grid-connected electricity, large infrastructures, and only a vague definition of social justice. Anna Fünfgeld has analysed these challenges in detail. With “Book a Scientist," she answers your questions on this topic.
Although the Middle East and North Africa are heavily dependent on fossil fuels and are major oil exporters, they could still play a key role in the transition to renewable energies. This opens up opportunities for cooperation between the EU and the Gulf states. Prof. Dr. Eckart Woertz answers your questions on these prospects as part of "Book a Scientist.”
Protests and propaganda: How do we find out what really happens in autocracies? Authoritarian states use targeted strategies to control and utilise the media both domestically and internationally. Dr. Maria Josua provides fascinating insights into these dynamics at “Book a Scientist.”
