  • Philosophical assumption shape our empirical research in the social sciences. This GIGA Session seeks to discuss practical implications of different philosophical positions and their relevance for research design. To guide the discussion, the lecturer will draw on examples from his own research on populism studies. Participants are encouraged to reflect upon their own project’s philosophical assumptions and to discuss together during the class the benefits of considering issues of philosophy of social science in the research process. 

    Dates

    The course will take place on 27th October 2022 from 2pm to 4pm, either online or in person at the GIGA.

    About the lecturer

    Hakkı Taş is a Research Fellow at the GIGA Institute of Middle East Studies. His research interests include populism, Islamic movements, and identity politics, with a special focus on Turkey and Egypt.
