The GIGA seeks to hire a
Student Assistant (m/f/d)
to support the research project “Monitoring System and Transfer Platform Radicalisation (MOTRA),” funded by BMI and BMBF, for up to 10 hours per week, starting as soon as possible for 6 months with the possibility of extending the contract. The student assistant will be required to be physically present in Hamburg. Currently, the remuneration is gross € 12.41 per hour.
Tasks:
Data collection and coding of X (formerly Twitter) profiles and posts.
Data management of survey data.
Literature search and management using Zotero.
General requirements:
Proficiency in English and German, knowledge of other languages would be an asset
Familiarity with research on radicalisation and extremism (e.g., right-wing, left-wing, or islamist extremism)
Excellent analytical and comparative skills
Good interpersonal skills and ability to work independently
Enrolment as a student of political science, sociology, economics, criminology, media studies, or related disciplines at a German university (if BA; 3rd semester or higher starting in April 2024), preferably in Hamburg or its vicinity
Desired requirements:
Experience with the collection, management and analysis of social media data
Experience with the collection, management, and analysis of survey data
Knowledge of Python and R or Stata
Knowledge of natural language processing (NLP) or other computational social science techniques
