South–South Cooperation in Africa: The Niger–Turkey Case

Developed countries provided foreign aid to developing nations at an unprecedented rate in the second half of the twentieth century. Notwithstanding, the literature indicates that North–South aid largely failed to achieve its publicly stated goals, whereas South–South cooperation (SSC) emerges as a potential solution with several presumed advantages.

An Analysis of Large-Scale Forced Migration in Africa

In this paper, human security-related causes of large-scale forced migration (LSFM) in Africa are investigated for the period 2011–2017. As distinct from the conventional understanding of (national) security, human security involves economic, public health, environmental and other aspects of people’s wellbeing.

Trapped in Neighbors' Conflicts: Democratization in the Middle East and North Africa, 1972-2013

“Bad neighborhoods” (i.e. regions with high levels of violence and instability) are regarded as detrimental to the domestic peace of bordering countries, since civil conflicts tend to spread amongst neighbors. This quantitative study examines the impact of civil violence and war on neighbors’ level of democracy in the MENA for the period 1972–2013.
