    Trapped in Neighbors' Conflicts: Democratization in the Middle East and North Africa, 1972-2013

    “Bad neighborhoods” (i.e. regions with high levels of violence and instability) are regarded as detrimental to the domestic peace of bordering countries, since civil conflicts tend to spread amongst neighbors. This quantitative study examines the impact of civil violence and war on neighbors’ level of democracy in the MENA for the period 1972–2013.
