This article explores two key facets of institutionalized ethical review processes in Germany: their importance in shaping ethical research and their associated challenges. To address these challenges, this article emphasizes the need for expanding the current management of research ethics and implementing what we call “Institutionalized Research Ethics Practices’’ (IREPs).

This article introduces a new dataset on how international organizations (IOs) justify their authority.

Pan-African cooperation faces stiff challenges but continues to hold great promise. “Agenda 2063,” the AU’s flagship programme, describes “the Africa we want.” It also details the Africa that Europe should support – but this requires a partnership of equals that respects and promotes African agency.

This paper demonstrate that the AU strives to prevent and manage crises through interventions but does so in ways that protect or promote incumbent regimes. This suggests careful balancing of the two main impetuses in African security regionalism, namely solving transnational problems and serving the interests of incumbents.
