GIGA Talk

05:30 p.m. (CET)
Since November, there have been regular attacks by Ansar Allah (also known as the Houthis) on shipping traffic in the Red Sea. The US and the UK have launched air strikes against Ansar Allah positions in Yemen to protect this trade route, which is central to the global economy. The EU recently also decided to deploy warships; the German frigate Hessen will be involved in the defensive EU mission. Against this backdrop, experts will discuss the following key issues in this GIGA Talk: Who are Ansar Allah, and what are their goals? How successful can the military operations be? What role does Iran play in this conflict? How likely is it that the latter will spread throughout the region? And, what other options are there for the EU regarding taking action here?
