GIGA Event
13/09/2018 - 14/09/2018
We are pleased to announce that this year’s AFK AK-Empirical Methods in Peace and Conflict Research workshop will be held at the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA) in Hamburg. The workshop will take place on 13–14 September 2018.
The topic of this year’s workshop is “New Qualitative and Quantitative Data in Peace and Conflict Research.” The goals of the workshop are:
To reflect on the challenges of gathering qualitative and quantitative data for research on peace and conflict;
To discuss new and innovative sources of data for peace and conflict research such as archival data, ethnographic data, or satellite data;
To develop best-practice approaches in collecting and integrating qualitative and quantitative data sources to study local and global phenomena related to peace and conflict.
We welcome submissions that explicitly address aforementioned goals of qualitative and quantitative data collection. We are also interested in qualitative and quantitative papers that conduct theory-guided empirical peace and conflict research. In presenting such papers (in English or German), we expect, however, that attention will be devoted to the challenges related to the process of data collection for the research question at hand.
