Can you briefly describe your previous work experience and how it relates to this position? I am a researcher with interest in questions related to development economics, environmental policy, and international political economy. My research is mostly empirical and often makes use of quasi-experimental methods to analyze different sorts of data. At the GIGA, I hope to join the research effort to make global supply chains fairer and more sustainable and inform current policy debates. What sparked your interest in working at the GIGA in this position? The prospect of collaborating with other researchers at the GIGA and working on topics such as sustainable development and globalization really sparked my interest! Moreover, as my research focuses on Latin America, I was thrilled to join the Institute for Latin American Studies (ILAS). In what ways do you stay current with the skills required in your field of work? Attending research seminars and conferences as well as keeping up with the related literature are probably my main ways of staying up to date. At times, I also enjoy taking part in more specialized courses to learn new skills and methods. Big conference or small workshop? Small workshops, as these usually allow for more in-depth discussions. Paperback book or eBook? Paperback without a doubt!
