Cooperation Event
16/05/2018 - 18/05/2018
The increasing international influence of authoritarian regimes has become a central concern of both scholars and practitioners. Since 2014, the Leibniz Association–funded research network “International Diffusion and Cooperation of Authoritarian Regimes” (IDCAR) has investigated the dynamics of authoritarian politics beyond an exclusively domestic perspective.
From 16 to 18 May, the fourth and final IDCAR network conference will take place in Hamburg. It will bring together 25 members from the (inter)national partner institutions and the GIGA’s IDCAR scholars. After taking stock of four years of network activities, the participants will present the initial results of the network’s innovative research on authoritarian diffusion and learning, which has received initial funding through eight IDCAR seed grants. In the second part of the conference, the participants will discuss larger projects that bring novel issues, data, and concepts to the study of authoritarian politics and its spread beyond national borders. Finally, three panellists will discuss the future challenges to authoritarianism research, focusing particularly on field research around the globe.
