Our scholars have different social science backgrounds – Political Science, Economics, and related disciplines – and are experts on our study regions of the Global South.

With its events series, the GIGA regularly presents research results and discusses both global trends and developments in the regions of Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East.
The GIGA Library is open to all interested parties, and usage is generally free of charge. It offers borrowing, inter-library loans, and various vital services at its on-site facilities, such as designated user workspaces and free Wi-Fi.
The GIGA is headed by the President (ad interim) as prima inter pares with the Executive Board. The Research Council is responsible for developing the Institute’s scientific orientation. The GIGA’s management team are supported and advised by three external bodies: the Board of Trustees, the Academic Advisory Board, and the Council for Financial Affairs.
