GIGA IAS - Research

Research and Research Projects at the IAS

The GIGA Institute of Asian Studies (IAS) analyses socio-economic and political affairs in East and South East Asian countries. Of particular interest to the Institute are country-specific and regional developments with relevance to German decision-makers in politics, administration, business, and society at large. Research conducted at the IAS is of a multi-disciplinary nature and combines context-sensitivity with appropriate theories and methods drawn from the social sciences.

Matrix

Research at the IAS is undertaken by permanent members of staff as well as external researchers working on third-party funded projects. The IAS aims at expanding the range of research projects funded by scholarly foundations and other external sources of finance.

IAS Research Fellows participate on a regular basis in national and international conferences and symposia. All IAS researchers are also
affiliated with one of the three Comparative Area Studies Research Programmes currently existing at the GIGA German Institute of Global and Area Studies.
